Roman Has Bought Right To Madness... Empty
PostSubject: Roman Has Bought Right To Madness...   Roman Has Bought Right To Madness... Icon_minitimeMon Nov 22, 2010 5:48 pm

You'd think that after just one season, it would be almost impossible to have a better record as manager of a club than Carlo Ancelotti. He has, after all, won two of the three available domestic trophies, sits on top of the Premier League and is all but through to the knock-out rounds of the Champions League.

And yet today we have rumours of his imminent resignation or at the very least discontent at his level of control over the club's affairs.

If these rumours have any truth at all it is the most extraordinary of situations but then, we have probably forgotten or at least take for granted just what an extraordinary club Chelsea became when their Russian owner purchased them. His arrival transformed them from little more than very occasional cup winners into a significant force on the European stage.

We take this for granted now but it is a major transformation and one that is not yet eight years old. At the time, there was much doubt that Roman Abramovich was in it for the long term; that Chelsea was a plaything of which he would tire when football's ornery nature kicked in and deprived the Russian of all the success he wanted.

As he invested more and more money, these fears were gradually allayed. But then the problems started. Jose Mourinho, the greatest manager to walk the modern stage, was alienated and effectively forced out by the interference of the owner. Jose was the star. Roman clearly doesn't like not being the star. Roman won, even if the club lost.

And now, Ancelotti - a man who is widely well regarded by players and press alike and who has proved himself a winner in his first season - could be undermined in his position in just the same way as Mourinho when Avram Grant was brought into the club.

Why is this happening? It makes no sense. Chelsea have a great manager. Is there a better manager available to Chelsea? Probably not. But that doesn't seem to concern their owner.

Eight years on since his arrival and Chelsea have still not won the big European trophy. Journalists close to Chelsea have said this is becoming the be all and end all for Abramovich. While fans may love the league titles and cup wins, they no longer sufficiently tickle his trout. He wants the big kahuna and is perhaps already worried that Ancelotti, having failed once to do this, is not the man to make it happen this year - though quite how he could have come to that conclusion is a mystery.

It all seems barking mad. But this is what you get when a football club is the personal fiefdom of its owner. It's not about the fans, it's not about the players, and it's not about the club, it's all about Roman.

And Roman gets what Roman wants no matter how bonkers what Roman wants may be. Indeed, perhaps it is only by doing this meddling, by playing politics with managers, that he sustains his interest in the project. Without the periods of scheming and politicking, perhaps he gets bored. So Chelsea fans should be pleased that Ancelotti is being undermined. It means Roman is still interested.

So why not suddenly dismiss a popular coach in Ray Wilkins? That'll be a bit of fun. It'll stir things up and make a few headlines. Then why not put in place your own anonymous stooge just like you did previously with Grant?

Yeah, baby, that'll be super-groovy fun.

After all, the football is getting dull again. No goals, three losses. Boo. That's not what Roman wants. Roman wants something to get his juices flowing. Imagine if he gets a hugely respected and successful coach to walk out? It will, to his mind, show his power and his all mighty self-belief. Don't mess with Roman. He is THE man.

Chelsea fans might be dismayed but you can keep out of all this, it's nothing to do with you. This is not your club. It is Roman's. He gave you all the success and this is the price you will pay and if you don't like it what exactly are you going to do? Like the millionaire with a rough girlfriend, he can ask, do you really want to go back to the council estate I rescued you from?

Chelsea is still his play-thing just as it was when he bought it in 2003 and this is how he likes to play. You have no choice but to accept it.

The alternative is that he takes his money away, calls in the loans and the club goes into liquidation. Unless you want that to happen, you would all do well to shut up and take whatever hubristic, ludicrous nonsense he wants to dish out.

You must indulge him in every way possible. You must stroke his ego and make him feel wanted because without him, you don't even have a club, let alone a super-successful club. So don't protest, don't fret, and don't do anything to rock the boat. Just suck it all down and remember who gave you your success and status and be very, very grateful.
